Founded in 2015 and based in Germany, Lilium GmbH develops electric jet technology and landing aircraft concepts. The company was founded by its Chief Executive Officer Daniel Wiegand, Head of Structure and Interior Sebastian Born, Chief Engineer Officer Matthias Meiner, and Vice President of Product Patrick Nathen. In February 2020, Lilium GmbH raised USD 240 million in series C funding led by returning investor Tencent Investment and in June 2020, Lilium GmbH raised USD 35 million in series C funding led by new investor Baillie Gifford. In May 2024, Lilium GmbH raised USD 50 million in a private placement, selling 47.
5 million shares at USD 1. 05 per share on NASDAQ. Lilium is developing an all-electric, vertical take-off and landing aircraft for regional air mobility and a mobile app for users to book and locate the nearest landing pads. Lilium GmbH has designed and prototyped the Lilium jet, an electric aircraft that will allow the company to provide regional journeys that are faster and lower in price than rail or road travel with zero operating emissions.
Lilium Jet aircraft first flew in 2019 and is a five-seater, fully-electric aircraft that can take off and land vertically. Lilium GmbH plans to launch commercial operations with its Lilium jet in 2024.
